A bit of genius!
For a long time now Yaesu have put a DVI-D socket on the back of their radios to connect an external monitor which is a brilliant addition. However, it’s getting harder to get new DVI compatible these days so you need to use an HDMI monitor via a DVI-HDMI adapter/cable.
The only problem with this is a risk of feeding voltage back to the radio and blowing a tiny fuse in side the radio that disables the display which can then only be fixed at an official Yaesu repair centre.
I’ll admit I have taken this risk and I run a Dell 24” HDMI monitor but every time I power the radio on I worry that I’m going to blow the radio.
VE2DX over in Canada have just come up with this little adapter that prevents the voltage feeding back to the Yaesu radio thus making it safe to run an HDMI monitor.
Rest assured I could not place the order fast enough and at about £48 it’s a bargain for the peace of mind that I’m not going to blow up my £4100 radio every time I start it up.
