Roger Thérond (1924 - 2001)

I’m someone who tends to get up very early and I start the day catching the news and flicking around the few channels that are on at that time in the morning. Just occasionally I get lucky and catch an interesting documentary.

This morning on Sky Arts I came across a documentary about Roger Thérond who was the editor of the Paris Match magazine. But the documentary wasn’t about that aspect of his life, it was actually all about his love of collecting very old photographs and his love and fascination not just of the photograph but of the people and places in the photograph and the person who took the photograph.

It’s hard to explain but I felt an immediate connection with this guy because I also have a love of old photographs and how they capture something that can never be replicated using todays modern high tech equipment.

Not only that, I also felt that Roger Thérond was personally an interesting, kind and thoughtful man and for that and his love of photography I’m adding him to my “Cup Of Coffee” list
