Both uncomfortable and sad to see in this day and age

Last week I had to take a very early morning taxi ride through Nottingham city centre and I was surprised by the substantial number of homeless people sleeping on the streets.

I’ll be very honest and admit to being very naive on the subject of homelessness with my only information coming from the media and local authorities. And based on that, I thought this was an improving situation. How many times have you heard the saying “nobody needs to sleep on the streets these days”?

Having seen things with my own maybe it’s not quite as rosie a picture as some people would have us think.

While I know some people (a small number of people I’m sure) are there through choice, I’m confident that the majority of these people have little or no choice in the matter.
