Making the change from 2E0BAF to M8BAF

M8BAF

Finally, Ofcom have allowed intermediate radio licence holders to change from a 2E0 call sign to a more standardised M8/M9 call sign. I jumped in as soon as possible a few days ago and made the changes so I am delighted to confirm that I am now officially M8BAF.

While the actual licence update is very quick and simple (nice one Ofcom), once it’s in place you then need to start the process of updating everything that links to you call sign. This includes setting withing each and every radio I use, updating my hotspot, updating numerus online databases like QRZ.com and RadioID.net, updating my logbooks and station software (not as simple as I thought it would be! And finally I needed to order new plaques for my desk and shack door.

All done now but it took a lot longer than I expected and was more complex that I imagined at the start.
