A bit of a VHF/UHF/HotSpot rethink

I had 2 VHF/UHF radios. The FTM-500DE located in the shack and the FTM-150ASP located in the car.

For no special reason last week I decided to swap them over. I’m really happy to say that because I used a .50cal ammo can to mount the body of the radio is was really easy to carry out the swap.

The only change that I needed to make was in order to access my Zum Hotspot. The Zum uses Yaesu System Fusion on UHF and the FTM-150 can not access Yaesu System Fusion mode.

The fix/work around for this was to pick up a pre-owned Yaesu FT5 hand held for dedicated access to the Hotspot.
